[quote So that's my advice: get a decent compact, learn how to use the manual setting & then learn how to tart them up in Photoshop.[/quote]
I too own a Canon 550 D and some great lenses and I must say I agree fully with you about Elements. It's a great piece of software and without it there are simply so many photos that will not work..It's really only once you learn how to use photoshop that you start to see the benifits of it..Only £60.00 and it will improve most photos as well as allowing you to be creative as well..

Now sorted out the vid thanks to Stewart's pointer to a free & staight forward video converter utility. Added the video to the end of the report but also included here to save some of you paging back.

This is a long one (nearly 4 min) taken from the summit of Lochnagar at around 7:30 am. It consists of a slow 360° pan & the 2 minutes of nothing much but very slowing drifting cloud. I suggest you mute the sound, choose a HD resolution, full screen it and listen to Song To The Siren by This Mortal Coil instead (
).

Hi mate, great video.Glad you got it sorted with the video converter..May I suggest taking things a bit further and adding your own soundtrack..Your video would have been even better with the song you suggested on the actual video..It's quite simple to do in Windows Movie Maker. Here's one I did earlier. It's only stills I took in Glencoe but it works even better with a movie..The music is by the late great John Martyn by the way..If you need any help please get in touch..These wee films are a great winter hobby.Hope you like it.

Thanks Stewart. I dare say I could manage to add a soundtrack but didn't in this case as what I had in mind is under copyright. I know this is much abused (& I'm as guilty as any other) but I'm still just putting my toe in the water at the moment... maybe next time.

I too missed this one first time round. Fantastic sunrise pictures. So often i try and drag myself up and out in the wee hours but i've never seen sunrise on anything other than my local sub-2000ers.

Absolutely brilliant pics - can you give brief tech info eg Camera/lens combination?

Sorry - missed the post re 550D - and having done Nevis via CMD with a 400D and basic lens couldn't agree more re compact camera - but what lens(es) did you use?
Would also suggest lens/camera be as waterproof as possible!
