Buachaille Etive Beag walk

10/06/2011, Donna and I were married back home in Nottingham. Several days later we were in Scotland for our honeymoon. We were off to the Isle of Tiree for a fortnight, but 1st, we were staying a couple nights in Oban and we had decided to walk up BEB if the weather was fine, which was the case. After a breakfast of potted-dog cobs at a lay-by on Rannoch moor, we parked up at the new-looking carpark. booted-up and started along the path before veering left up the ever steeper path up to the Bealach.

Having been overtaken by an older (but sprightly) couple who went up SCR first, we decided to go for Stob Dubh and after climbing a bump, we were soon enjoying the views (and the breeze!) on the ridge.

Its ever so warm...honest!

Soon, we were enjoying views all around...and posed for the mandatory photos.

Before long, a cloud rolled up the hill and we were enveloped in fog for a few minutes.

I soon started to regret watching The Fog last weekend...

Walking back along the ridge, it started spitting with rain but it did nothing to dampen our spirits.

We were soon down the bump and enjoying a picnic on the pink rocks before tackling the rather untidy looking SCR. We zig-zag our way up around the boulders and upon turning round to admire the view, we saw a rather ominous looking cloud covering Stob Dubh.

Its a bit black over Bills mothers...

We quickly reached the summit and waterproofed up before putting our backs to the horizontal hail and rain but in 15 minutes, it had passed over and seemed intent on taking its anger out on Rannoch moor. We took a couple more snaps for the album before punishing our weary knees on the descent.

All too soon we were back at the carpark. It had been a thoroughly enjoyable walk on the little booker.even though our legs ached rather more than expected! After a drink and nibble we were off to Oban to check-in at the guest house and a well-earned pint at a pub!

Enjoyed your report, Wrighty - you've taken some really good pics. I especially liked the low level rainbow. Did you manage to find the pot of gold! By the way - what's a potted-dog cob? Do I really want to know the answer?

Thanks for the congrats folk. We fully intend to bag a few more munros on our travels north of the border. Glad you like the photos, though my fave is the storm cloud approaching over Stob Dubh. oh, potted-dog is just beef spread and a cob is what we call a bread roll round these parts mi duck!
