It was now the last day of our trip and after having a few the night before at the Kildonan hotel we were a bit worse for wear so we were hoping for a easier cycle than the one the previous day. We knew we didn't have far to cycle today but the big question was how steep was it going to be, thankfully it wasn't too bad as we made our way to Lamlash. Here we would get the 11am boat over to Holy Island, climb Mullach Mor and get the 12.15 boat back over. Yeah well so we thought, being a pair of smart arses we said that'll not take us long, not realizing after 3 hard days the legs were starting to go. So here we were telling the folks on the boat we'd be getting the 12.15 boat back to save us waiting till 14.15, well as we passed them running down the hill we heard the words and laughter " you'll never make it" and guess what? yip we didn't make it. Were we disappointed? No because it was a beautiful day again and it was a beautiful Island and Dave commented how it was wrong of us not to spend more time on it and he was right. So we took a wee stroll along the Island along a grassy path checking out Bhudda paintings and a couple of caves along the way.
The walk to the summit is waymarked and path all the way, in places steep and narrow with also a little scramble along the way.
We then got the 14.15 boat back to Arran, cycled the 3 miles to Brodick catching the 15.15 ferry back to Ardrossan. We had the best time you could imagine on a beautiful Island in unbelievable weather and the company was great the pleasure all being Daves.

Your last photo looks really enticing - is the path really right round the island? How far would you say it is? I'd love to visit there and give that a go.

Thanks MT

JTweedie, the path only covers 3/4 of the island and is a easy low level walk. It's quite a interesting island with regular boat trips.

Cheers, I think I'll try and make it over in the next two weekends - I plan to climb the hill as well.

That's great and brings back memories. Despite spending every July on Arran as a kid I never got onto Holy Island (though we did fish all round it once or twice with a dodgy seagull engine). I'll need to fix that.

The Kildonan hotel is also a favourite- my first introduction to Haute Cuisine .Cold Heinz beans being served as part of the buffet!

Thanks. Had a few beers in the Kildonan as we camped there the night before visiting Holy Island. :D
