Eabhal was my hill for today
Couldn't find the insect repellant so stopped off in Baile a'Mhanaich to buy some.
Double causeway to cross this morning - touching the north tip Grimsay
How does that go again
"Oh,Oh Grimsay, a thousand delights
Couldn't match the sweet sights
Of my Grimsay"

Err - or maybe not

Once on North Uist it is not a long drive out by Loch Euphort to Clachan Bhuirabhal
There is enough parking for about 6 cars next to the wee art studio.
Started walking just after 9 and along the path by Loch Obasaraigh.

The path was fine in the dry conditions but I imagine would be a bit of a glaur after wet weather.

Approaching Burabhal

Wondered whether to go over Burabhal first but opted to contour round and head for Eabhal.
An hour or so found me at the base of the hill.
Eabhal is only 347 metres but it's isolation makes it look bigger.
In my mind it looks a bit of a miniature Blabheinn.
Small it may be, only 1100 feet to climb, but my lack of fitness sure told on this wee hill, what a pech.
The summit cone just didn't seem to be getting any closer, but eventually reached the trig point.
Glad to sit for a bit of a rest.

A bit of cloud had come in over the top as I struggled up, so the views were not very clear.
Anyway it was still well before mid-day so could afford to wait for a while for a clearance.
Wandered out to the large cairn and back, and the cloud did lift and break a bit.

Looking over to Burabhal

Started back down after an hour at the top and decided to take the short detour to the cave marked on the map.
By the time I reached the base of the cave the top of Eabhal was completely clear.
A mild scramble of about fifteen feet brings to the level floor of the cave.
The cave is about 30 feet long, ten-twelve feet high - not the best of photos.

Back down for the rucsac and the wander up to Burabhal before the pleasant amble back to the car

This is a really grand half days walk - one of the highlights of my wee trip to the hebrides. :D

I had been told that the Westford Inn was a good place for a beer - and so it was

Great to see Eabhal again. It is a good wee hill.
North Lee and South Lee are also worth a visit, as is the Lochmaddy Hotel afterwards. :)

Yep, good to see this hill again - we went up it on a perfect day in may last year - one of my best days yet. Views unlike anything you'll find on the mainland. (and also the worst midge attack I've had!).

Nice to see the cave- if we had time we wanted to check it out, and also fancied going over Burabhal , but up against the clock to catch the ferry home we didn't risk it. Will definitely be back though :)
