At our mid day break we were relaxing at Uig discussing the proper way to conclude our time on the Isle of Skye. The weather was still cooperating and even improving from earlier this morning as we had fewer clouds and warmer temperatures. We gave consideration to driving to Portree and stopping at the Old Man of Storr again, but we hadn't driven the Uig-Staffin road and stopping and visiting the Quiraing from the more common direction. After driving back up the A855 hill from Uig we made the right turn onto the Uig-Staffin road that had a sign at the beginning cautioning us that this road was not maintained as well as other roads in the winter.

We discovered absolutely no parking spaces at the upper parking area so we continued on to the lower parking area where we decided to return to the upper area and try to find a spot to park. The lot was still full but we continued on and found a "wide" area on the side of the road where one adventurous soul had parked and it appeared there was room for one more. The car just fit and it was even completely off the lane of traffic, of course we could only exit the car from one side now

It wasn't too long of a walk and we arrived at the upper parking area where NOW there were spots to park. Sorry, the car can stay where we left it, I'm not moving it now.

From here we traveled many directions with many stops to enjoy the scenery. We walked toward the Quiraing, we returned and walked up Maoladh Mor, back down and across the road and up toward Bioda Buidhe. The following photos were taken during our walk.

Our three days on the Isle of Skye were coming to a close. We had such a wonderful time, we have already made plans to return for another Scottish holiday in May 2012. Skye is one of the places we will return to again, maybe the next visit we will summit Sgurr na Stri and others yet to be determined.

With time I will post some of the walks we did in the Alps earlier this summer.

8) 8)

You'd be surprised how few Scots get out and see this.

Indeed, quite a lot of the hill-walking community consider North Skye to be Sgurr nan Gillean. ;)

Nice 8)
