After freshening up in the cottage after the Fairy Pools walk in Glenbrittle, we drove around Trotternish to Kilmuir to walk to Loch Sneosdale. There was a threat of rain in the afternoon, and the midges were around again. We parked in the recycling area next to Kilmuir Hall and set off up the road to a gate where a dirt track heads off to Loch Sneosdale.

The path from the gate to the transmitter was perfect. Dry, solid and easy to walk on. There were many sheep around and they bleated as we passed, and carried on grazing. After passing the transmitter, the walk went from great to a disaster. The track started to become muddier and light rain started to fall. We carried on though and reached the Heribusta turn off. About 500m after this point, the track turned into bog.

We headed off the track and onto the grassy area and reached a stream. We jumped across and a couple of footsteps later, we were in bog. Rick tried to find a way through and managed to keep his feet dry until landing on a section of bog that left him standing a foot deep in water. After battling his way out, he tried the other side of the track only to get stuck in bog again. Kamila was finding this quite amusing, until she took a wrong step and ended up with a foot in water too.

We tried for a good half an hour to get around this bog, but it defeated us and when the rain finally came, we gave in and made our way back to Kilmuir and the safety of our car.

We will try again when the weather is nicer next time we are on Skye. We headed back to the cottage and planned a day of sightseeing before heading up the Old Man of Storr the following day.
