One Five Ohhhh Augustus Gloop

Back in the hills then after a depressing week at work following a fantastic weekend in Kintail last weekend... Target this weekend, the big 150... I was umming an ahhing about the route, but good ole Augustus Gloop seemed to have the best of the weather scheduled in for the morning, so it was another early start.

The walk starts from Kilfinnan or if you can't be bothered to drive round you could start from Laggan Lochs without adding much... It's an easy first 3 Clicks along a bulldozed track through the forest. This isn't a long walk but the track is very smooth, so if you fancy saving yourself 6 clicks you could bike it easily...

The track through the forest...

Meall Dubh looming large in front of you is the signal that you're nearly ready to begin the hard work...

Meall Dubh...

The section up through the forest will get your heart rate up, but there's nothing uncomfortable, as a good track weaves it's way up through the forest... It won't be long before you're out on the open moorland, about a 100 metres or so...

The Open Moorland...

The track is a good one all the way to the beallach and it's not particularly steep so you'll be able to motor if you want to...

Once there you've a decision to make about which hill first... I chose Meall na Teanga to the south; mainly because I was going to walk back along the ridge over Sean Mheall if it remained clear...

The going is again fairly easy though a little steeper, but nothing troubling... Looking along the valley you'll see Meall an Tagraidh if it's clear...

By this time the wind had picked up, and I was in the cloud getting wet, but it doesn't take long to get to the top, it's a little over 200 metres from the beallach to the summit... And what a view; Deer everywhere, but no Dalmatians this time...

Meall na Teanga Summit...

I was cold today; must be the end of the summer, but couldn't keep warm so kept moving instead... A hop skip and a jump; watching some deer along the way and that was me on the summit of the second...

Me on the summit of Sron a'Choire Ghairbh...

The clag hadn't lifted, nor did it look like it would so I decided to head back the way I'd come; not much point in clambering through bog when you can't see out...

It lifted a little on the descent but not a lot... This was about as good as it got looking toward Meall Dubh with the ascent route up Meall na Teanga visible to the right...

In no time at all I was back down by the forest looking over the trees to Loch Lochy...

Which all just left the three clicks back along the track to the car... I was done with those fairly quickly and with just 6 minutes of stoppage time for photos etc I was done with these two in less than 4 hours 20 mins... Not bad for Augustus Gloop... And the 150 mark safely under my belt...

The Stats... EVen took the picture at the end of the walk so sunrise sunset is right and the other little details that people try and catch me out on

It's only rain right...??

I think it was some pretty lass from Glasgow, I mean Upper Glasgow, I mean Rutherglen...

Hopefully you'll get much better weather next weekend, and you can show me what they're all about... I left something for you at the top of Meall Na Teanga...

No river crossings either so maybe you can keep your knickers dry   :D
