At the end of Glen road there is a small parking area, from here you can head straight on along the path if doing the horseshoe circuit or the other option is to turn right along the private road and walk or cycle down it. I took the road as i wanted to use my bike for part of this walk. I left my bike just after Glensax where a path to the left continues up the hillside. I took this path to the ridge then took a left to Birkscairn Hill, from here i retraced my steps back along the ridge over Stake Law and on to Dun Rig. From Dun Rig you follow the curving ridge round and upto Glenrath Heights then over to Broom Hill and across to Stob Law. From Stob Law you go back to Broom Hill, i then headed down the ridge for a bit towards Hudlestone Hope before heading down the slopes to pick up the path back to my bike. From here it's a 15 minute cycle back to the car.

Really like the look of this Johnny, it reminds me of the circuits of the Pentlands we sometimes do.

Hubby will soon be getting instructions to drive me down to Peebles

If it took you five hours it will probably take me about seven, better set aside a whole day for this :)

Thanks for the comments. Morag, my advice would be to do the horseshoe route as described on this site rather than the route i took. Once you've gained the height it's a relatively easy walk and Stob Law is wee diversion to the horseshoe if you wish to add it on.

Great stuff and all in our "Back Yard" . Morag, I agree with the comments about choosing to do the horseshoe as described on this site. Check out our walk report on this if you want. A good variation of that round is to descend over Preston Law and Newby Kipps, which is unusual in these parts by having an exposed rocky outcrop at the summit and has extensive views of Peebles and the Tweed valley. If anyone wants to contact a "local" then please feel free to give us a shout.

Thanks Johnny have just looked at the walk description and i see what you mean. I didnt realise this walk was on the site, when I first read your report I thought it was a route you had decided on yourself. Its only about half an hours drive from home so no excuses for us not doing it soon :D

Thanks very much Paul and Antonia. I remember reading your report when you first submitted it and have just gone and read it again. At present I am hunched over the map, working out your variation
