Parked car in car park just off main road. Forest walk signposted along with route for Silver Walk which we had partly walked from the other side at Castle Tioram.
The path goes down into the forest and uses a clearing for electricity poles till it reaches the bottom of the hill then cuts back into forest plantation. A gate is reached with a style as well. Walked through the gate and then steeply up the hill to reach a view point. Standing stone at two thirds way up. Still in plantation, view over Loch Moidart and a bench for the weary. Isabel went back to car at this point.
- First viewpoint, Loch Moidart
Walked on till reached split in trail and took left hand one up hill.
- View of Loch Moidart from high path
Once across the burn, the paths join once more. I kept left to walk up to highest view point. The path is now less obvious, grass mostly beside a drainage ditch. Wooden steps help you climb up past another plantation before coming out into the open for final climb up.
- The view east from route up to second view point
Got view back up the glen to mountains as well as sea loch below.
- The loch from second viewpoint
- Kinlochmoidart from top
Retraced my steps to burn, then went lower track. This is heavily covered in moss and a bit slippy. Some stones are provided to help walking, but had to be careful. Rejoined the upper path after walking through oak and birch trees. Back up the hill and into forestry plantation once more. Waited at first view point to let a heavy shower past, then walked back to the car before the next one arrived.
The Silver Walk only uses the lower part of this walk before meandering along the loch side to Castle Tioram.
