Another gloomy, dreich and windy day led us round to Lochgoilhead for a wee change of "scenery." From the carpark at the head of the Loch, we followed the Cowal Way towards the forest, passing some handsome looking locals along the way. Being the good friend that I am, I let Del Boy lead the way past them
- Am I the only one that gets nervous when they stare??
- Safely past
Once past the coos, it's over a stile and into the forest, passing by a nice waterfall through the trees on the left.
This then led to a firebreak where the path was wet and muddy, and then eventually out onto the open hill where there is a stile over the fence.
- Firebreak
- Out of the forest and into the gloom
From here we plodded along the Cowal Way route, hoping to sniff out a track of some sort, but to no avail, and around the 450m mark we headed Southeast off the path. The rest of the walk was pretty unspectacular with zero views from here to the summit cairn, where the wind was strong, the rain was wet and the air was cold!
Didn't hang around the summit, and took a more direct descent back to the firebreak, with a few slips and slides along the way
Despite the conditions it was a fairly enjoyable plod, and being 3 feet short of a Corbett, Cnoc Coinnich had more ascent than some of the Munros I've done. Would have been nice to get some views of the two Lochs though, which has got me thinking I may redo this on a nice crisp blue sky day in winter
