We left home in sunshine hoping to climb Middle Dodd and High Hartsop Dodd, but the Kirkstone Pass area was in thick mist. So we went north to Glenridding, which was sunny! :D Parked in the carpark on the left at Stybarrow Crag (it is a parking layby that takes about 10 cars and has a bus stop). We went along the lakeshore path north and turned left at the signpost to Seldom Seen (Glencoyndale). After crossing the stile after Seldom Seen we turned immediately left, following the wall up to the hause between Glenridding Dodd and Sheffield Pike. (We'd previously used this line of ascent for Sheffield Pike, and a lot of walkers will want to combine both tops.) Proceed to the end of the wall where there are views into Glenridding. Turn left and proceed to the summit - it's not far!

This is a great little top, even when a November wind is blowing. Perhaps we'll take Wainwright's advice next time - "on a sunny day in August the summit is a delectable place".

We came down Mossdale which took us straight back to the car - lovely autumn colours, old trees and lots of moss. The path is quite slippy in places - if you want a quicker way down go to Glenridding via Blaes Crag.

This is a good half day walk, but it could easily be combined with Sheffield Pike.
