Probably like hundreds of other walkers I have been watching the weather hoping for a break in the rain and wind before New Year. The chance duly arrived this morning with MWIS giving a window from 0800 to 1500 for good walking. I opted for this one as I wanted to get my 20th Munro completed before the end of 2011 and I haven’t done that much this year and my fitness isn’t as it should be. So this walk looked perfect.
I’m not including a lot of detail in this report as there are so many great reports already on the website and I didn’t do the full ridge walk (will get this another day for sure).
Anyway we (Ruby and me) arrived at the Lawers car park at 0815 with no other soul around. The conditions were perfect, no rain, no wind, clear skies.
Made it up to the summit through one tricky snow/ice gully just below the top at 1045ish. Decided against the rest of the ridge as I only had my snow spikes with me and no ice axe (and no skill to tackle that yet!! I need to book a winter skills course soon).
Passed another couple who were also just doing the munro and then a couple of pairs who were planning to do the whole circuit. I hope they got off before the weather turned, and I hope that the group with no rucksacks, wearing jeans (think they were eastern European) that I last saw heading up the hill around 12pm made it off too.
Another great day out - it’s a real privilege to walk in the Scottish hills.
