We did this walk in May 2011. With the weather forecasting rain we decided on a gentle walk in Culag Woods. We left our cottage at the foot of Ben Coigach in Culnacraig and took the “wee mad road” to Lochinver. We had seen the damage caused by Aprils fires from Stac Pollaidh a few days earlier, but the scenes of devastation on both sides of the road were pretty dramatic. However, fresh green shoots could already be seen growing through.

No visit to Lochinver can be made without visiting the pie shop. Expensive, but wonderful, Young Carter had his fill on Haggis and Potatoes, whilst me and the wife devoured Venison in Red Wine.

We set off into Culag Woods from the car park near Loch Culag. We set off in rain and made our way through the woods following various random paths. Eventually we found our way to the shore and stopped for a coffee and a spot of rock pooling. A rope swing provided too much of a distraction for Mum!

Plenty of fun once the sun came out.

There are numerous bridges, sculptures and natural artistic items dotted around. Good fun for a 4 year old and ideal for a well earned rest gazing at the treetops.

Climax of the walk is the steep climb up to the central hill which promised views over to Suilven
It’s there somewhere?

There we are!

All in all, a very pleasant way of working off the pies.

Nice to see the wee ones getting out in the fresh air, can't wait til my wee girl is old enough to join me in the hills :)

Hey AB, heart-warming report there. That area has it all, doesn't it. :)
