MWISforecasting 80% cloud free at summits

All systems go! Bag packed the night before and alarm set for 0615.

Up dressed out the door at 0645!!

We (me and Ruby - as usual) arrived at the Braes of Foss carpark at 0830ish - only 2 other cars there with no one around.

We set off on the fabulous path at around 0845. It really is as good as the descriptions. Conditions were absolutely perfect. Clear skies, no rain with quite a bit of fog in the valleys.

After about 30minutes we met our first fellow walker- only thing is he was running - down the hill. God knows what stupid oclock time he got up this morning!!

Made it to the first big cairn and spotted the other cars owners I think. At the summit. I took their picture and when we met a little later I said I would post it on the site. I think the guy said his WH name was Louie6???

The views were just breath taking and this mountain is simply majestic. When we finally made it through the boulder fields to the summit at around 1115 it felt as if you would fall into an abyss if you stepped out too far. I can imagine this could be a really dangerous summit in poor conditions.

So on the way up we felt as if no one esle was on the hill. On the way back it was like a walk in Kelvingrove Park, lots of people, dogs, kids all heading to the summit. I hope they all made it back safely.

Anyway we got back to the car around 1245 happy and tired.

Another great day out in Scotlands biggest theme park!!

Ah, I wondered what the top of Shiehallion looks like. It didn't when I was there! It will have to go on my repeat list.

Thanks for all the comments. lots about not getting a view . I usually head out early when I walk and it might just be my perception however I think there is a better chance of clear skies early morning than later in the day. 10 minutes after I left the summit it wascovered in thick cloud!!! (not sure if it lasted or cleared away?

Thinking of doing this one with the dog, how did Ruby cope with the rocks?

Allan, she was absolutely fine although she did stay close behind when we got to the bigger rocks. Much better than the car. She barfed up her breakfast as usual! there were 4 or 5 dogs on the hill - didn't seem to be any trouble for them
