I had been up Culter fell a couple of weeks prior with my hopefully soon to be Brother-in-Law - a nice chap. He wasn't feeling too great so then we had nailed CF in a lazy afternoon and returned. A quick getaway from work and I was flying down the A74 towards Abington. I carried on to the Culter Fell spot that I had done a couple of weeks ago and decided to go back up Culter Fell as it was a cold, crisp and beautiful day. I got to the top of this hill in just over an hour before heading over towards Gathersnow Hill - notably, this would have been horrendously boggy in other conditions but it was fine down to the bealach. I dumped my bag and stormed up my 2nd objective of the day passing some snow just below the plateau. A trek across towards the tiny cairn saw me there at 1615 and a rapid descent and walk back along the reservoir felt good on the legs (in my duvet trousers - supreme!). I love these afternoon 'thefts' of hills not far from my doorstep with the early evening alpenglow. It almost feels a little dangerous to be on the hill so late in the day.

An affy fine report Kev.

Must confess to a sharp intake of breath when I saw it popping it (oh matron!!!) Thought there would be a few dodgy images of my knackered face  :(

Those grahams are sneaky wee blighters

We did get rather ideal conditions. 8)

Thanks for a smashing afternoon of blethering, candid words and sound advice- cheers mate X

Did this and Culter last November. The reason it's called Gathersnow Hill is because there's allways snow on it

Nice report Kev, had me chuckling. Would be tempted to join you sometime if only so Ruby and I could get a shot of those trousers and feel that "in leg coital experience"

Nice report and pictures - one of my favourite winter walks, but if you really want a piddly little cairn try (finding the two stones) on Stob Law!

Yikes, I'd forgotten about the unintentional Fiarach!!!

It just ties in with me forgetting the names of the hills that I've been up :? :?

But yes yes yes to more Grahams in the future, I never say to an invitation to venture up a hill- size doesn't matter
