The forecast for today looked excellent, so I set off from home just before 04.00 to arrive at the parking area for Beinn Tharsuinn around 06.15.

By 06.30, I was off walking - using my headtorch to see where I was going. I wanted to get reasonably high-up to watch the sunrise.

First light:

The walk-in was fairly slow as I kept stopping to take photos.

There was enough light, about an hour before sunrise, to allow me to switch off the headtorch.

The pre-sunrise colours were spectacular this morning. I particularly liked the view towards the Cairngorms.

On reaching the end of the track, I made my way up Torr Leathann – a Graham Top of Beinn Tharsuinn.

I managed to get to a height of 450m as the sun began to appear.

Was a bit sun-blind for a few minutes after taking the above photos – I know your not supposed to look into the sun!

On reaching the top of Torr Leathann, I was grinning like a Cheshire Cat – days like this are what hillwalking is all about.

The air clarity today was superb.

From Torr Leathann I made my way across to Beinn Tharsuinn, walking on neve as much as possible.

Long shadows:

I was really impressed with the views from the summit. I was surprised and delighted to see across to Assynt – great seeing the West Coast from an East-Coast hill.

From the summit of Beinn Tharsuinn, I descended back to the end of the track and then followed the track back out to the car.

I was back to the car by 11.00 and therefore needed a hill dessert. I crossed the road and ascended Cnoc an t-Sabhail (Sub 2000ft Marilyn) – report to follow.

Wonderful day :D.

What great photos! Winter is great for hills that would otherwise be a bit of a bogfest! Dave

Bloody midweek walkers

Brilliant photos - was surprised myself when I realised I could see Assynt from here. Better hope that the other 692 point isn't the real summit, eh?

Only noticed the twin summit when I got back at looked at the map. :)
Good excuse to do the hill again if the summit changes.

Nice report Foggie. With the trig point being on the first summit it will be the height of the trig point higher   Nice sunrise photos and great views all round. Superb. :D

I'm not often lost for words, but this is one of those rare occasions. The best I can manage is "You Bandit!"

I had well and truly forgotten about my having to pull the plug on this one at the last minute last month due to my wife coming down with a bug that day...... until now! :( This just brings home the full horror of what I may have missed! Cheers foggie! You've made my weekend!

Seriously though, cracking report and pictures. And to think that there are people who wouldn't look twice at a Graham like this one! :? :?

This is probably the one and only reason you would want to get out your bed at 4 o'clock in the morning

Awesome! Some people don't know what they're missing...
I'm working in SE Asia at the moment, 30 degrees every day, but I'd much rather be there!
