The only snow this weekend was lying in the fields surrounding the Broughton area as we travelled up the west coast from Barrow to Egremont before cutting inland to Ennerdale Bridge and parking up at Scaly Moss. Although there was no snow which we expected after this week, we headed into a fog / mist laden forest walk (fortunately following a well defined path) up onto Grike & Crag Fell.
We had to stop every hundred metres to ensure that we were still on track and to ensure we didn't miss any track. Although on the way up we could see that part of the forest had been felled, it was only on the return leg when the cloud parted for a while we could see the devastation across the hillside.
We didn't get the expected view of Ennerdale that was expected but another two were claimed towards my Wainwright total.
Lank Rigg was on the plans for today but as we couldn't see more than 10m in front of us, the thought of crossing the 2 mile expanse across fields with no clear track was somewhat off-putting so we kept it safe and returned back on the bridleway.

Two of the 6 i've got left to do, are they as uninspiring in reality as i seem to think they are??

They would probably be a pleasant plod on a half decent day when you can see the cleared forest lines and oversee Ennerdale. They are not really any challenge from this side but would be very scenic and rather more of a challenge if tackled from Ennerdale Water going up over Robin Hoods Chair. A lot of people have tagged Lank Rigg to these two but that wasn't really an option for us.
They aren't the regions best but with good company they are nice enough.

I had a nice day when I did these - along with Lank Rigg, and I actually enjoyed it - except for the boggy stuff when you drop off Lank Rigg towards the river, which also needs crossing! I think these were 210, 211 and 212 for me :)

Shame about the views but, at least you, John and Damson got out walking

I often go up the road from Ennerdale Bridge to the Kinniside stone circle for photo opportunites. I also like the drive over to Calder Bridge, get some great views :D

I just did these two by the route you proposed, and on a cold but dry autumn day they were a real delight. Not very strenuous, which my partner needed as he is recovering from a broken leg but easy walking and fine views. :D

Another nice wander and not surprised Damson took the opportunity to keep warm....had a similar experience on Dartmoor Saturday where we had 4 seasons in one day and two very soggy, wet and very cold dogs! Had to cut that walk short!! Nice report Phooey! :D
