The Pass of Drumochter, Dalnaspidal Forest

It was time for a return to Drumochter for Valerie and I with a chance to complete the four munros west of the A9, and we managed to climb the Sow of Atholl on the way back, added bonus. So it was Beinn Udlamain, Sgairneach Mhor and the Sow that provided us with a lovely day out in our wintery mountains with the added treat of bumping into Collaciotach and a couple of his friends descending Udlamain. It was fun realising that we recognised each other purely based on the fact we are walkhighlands cyber friends

Anyway good chats were had and we bid farewell setting off again in our opposite directions of the circuit, both of us looking forward to pint at the Kintail meet in a few weeks time

We headed off first for Beinn Udlamain up the track into Coire Dhomhain followed by a carefully selected steep ascent onto the broad ridge above linking this mountain with A'Mharconaich (see the map above).

A view of The Sow and the bridge we would be using later on after descending this corbett. I was very keen that this would be our final summit of our day. I was confident it would give great views of the lands all around with the A9 sweeping through dividing East and West. I was not to be disappointed....:)

A' Mharconaich appearing in now glorious sunshine. We were up there earlier in the month on not such a nice day, but still a wonderful one sharing some quality time with spiderwebb and skoob999.

Enjoying being sat on top of The Sow we did not want to leave and we enjoyed this large rounded steep sided corbett as much as many mountains. One final and strange encounter was that Ritchie whilst relaxing too at the cairn discovered a large bone which I first mistook for a frozen baguette covered in frost! On closer inspection I realised it was a chunky limb with remaining flesh and skin! I convinced Ritchie to leave it alone, but whilst dropping back down to the bridge and heading for the car I could not help wondering? How weird, it was not a sheep or deer's lower leg, but something more reminiscent of a Sow's leg!!? Has anyone else ever found this whilst climbing The Sow? Or did any of you simply leave this behind after having lunch early in the week....

Cheers guys, we had a great day out thanks.......and I am sure the remains were animal! Just had me thinking...might need to go back up The Sow and check it though before the thaw!
