Beinn Achaladair and Beinn a'Chreachain
Posted: Sat May 31, 2008 10:09 pmThe dreaded Beinn Achaladair!! Was wondering when this mountain would rear it's head on the website. Anyway,it's a great mountain, as long as you don't fall off 
having been up them both before, I prefer the walk-in up through the Coire Achaladair as i like the views towards Glencoe from the bealach and the south top. Although the views towards Stob Garbhar are not ahead of you, they are very noticeable all the same. A very exposed summit especially when the wind chill is high (trust me!!), the descent to bealach towards Meall Buidhe doesn't bring a relief as the wind gust across here very stronly. There are several large rocks to shelter behind for your lunch.The way up to Beinn a'Cheachain is pretty straightforward and good views open up of Ben Alder, Meall Garbh and Chno Dearg. When descending, head NNE towards a railway footbridge, rather than the underpass. It's only a short detour, then head for the wooden bridge. A post-walk pint in the Bridge of Orchy hotel beckons!!
Incidentally, at both summits, there are good views of Beinn Mhannach, although nearer Tyndrum, it's classed as a Bridge of Orchy Munro. An excellent walk-in from Auch, take in it's top, Beinn a' Chuirn first.
I'm intending to head back to these hills to complete them some time in July this year. All welcome!!
