Booked a whole week in the Cairngorms and couldnt wait. Drove up Sunday and arrived at a very busy Coire Cas about 12pm with unfinished business from last May

A quick bite to eat and off up the wee skiers hill and it looked very promising view wise

Wasnt very happy to find the Ptarmigan completely clagged out :-(

Another quick cuppa at the Ptarmigan then off up the hill and talking to people coming down we were in for a treat.

Arrived on top with an inversion behind us

Arrived at the Cairn to stunning views across the plateau

very busy at the weather station and unseasonally warm

And a first for me - A fog bow

My favourite pic of the day

Another boring view :-)

Heading back with a partial double fog bow

Back at the Ptarmigan it was foggy but the sledge park looked fun

the trip down was quick ( only kidding )

Unfortunately the rest of the weather was affected by the weather but this walk alone was worth the drive up :D

Excellent Vick1.
I just cannot believe the level or not of snow. Its normally full cover over this range of mountains in February. Nice walk. Looks like a summers day and lovely inversion :D

I'd ask for a refund. I mean......where's the wind? Where's the snow? And what's with all these fantastic views?

Great pictures :D Looks like a fantastic day :D Albeit a bit busy on the top perhaps.

the Cairngorms are never boring.
it was sad to see, in your "we arrived at the cairn" photo that the cairn has not been rebuilt to its former glory. im afraid i had a hand in removing the original cairn and turning it into footpath. one of my colleagues found a silver shaving case with a note inside that had been buried in the cairn in the 19th century. i think the note was just a list of names, but it felt sacrilegious removing the cairn and packing it into 1ton bags for the helicopter to drag away

You cannae fool me that you were bored on that walk! You've got some great photos there. :D I especially like the shots into the sun with the inversion below. It definitely looks like another (well populated!) planet. That weather station scared the wits out of my wife and I as we stood at the summit admiring the view - when this thing like a gun turret emerged with a whir and started to threaten us! But it was only taking weather readings!

Thanks everyone the "boring" quote was tongue in cheek and the weather last May on my failed atttempt was more typical of the Cairngorms. I didnt even know there was a cairn there as all the pics Id seen were of the weather station and the wee thing that whirrs out the top got a round of applause from everyone. I only get up to Scotland max 6 trips a year but really enjoyed this day . Probably be another year before I get back up there :(

aye, some memorable pics there 8) . Although why do inversions always look best into the sun which is so awkward to photo well :? ?
