Was looking at the weather forecast all day Monday hoping that the high pressure that was sitting pretty overhead would hang around. No such luck it was to break Tuesday, however at what time? An Caisteal was the target along with Beinn a Chroin and Ben Chabbair. The plan was simple park one car at the Drovers Inn then drive up to the layby at Keiltor farm on the A82. This all seemed to be going well and the ascent upto Sron Gharbh although very squelchy and boggy was accomplished in just over an hour.
. Heading up from Glen Falloch proved quite easy although I always seem to struggle in my first hour of walking no matter where I go...strange(maybe the old blood flow takes a bit longer to circulate these days...)
As we hit the ridge the wind still wasn't too bad and the rain that had been forecast still had to yet to arrive although the wind had started to pick up
.
As we gradually climbed the snow started to become heavier, that said I do love winter wonder lands as we don't seem to get enough these days(last year excluded of course!) and we spent a bit of fun in the white stuff.
The wind started to really pick up now as we hit the peak in fact well gale force and standing was a very big issue!
- Bloody windy
Although we had a short attempt at trying to go along the ridge we decided it was too dangerous and decided the other two peaks could wait until a better day arrived(although I do hate being beaten by mother nature and her feisty sidekick the wind!)
- Ooush!
- Dare you to stand up?
. Defeated we tucked tails and headed back the way we came to lick our wounds for another day. All in we really enjoyed the whole day once you get off the boggy grass upto Sron Garbh, next time I think I'm going at this from Derrydarroch just down the road.
- Wheres my toboggan?
- Wish I'd brought crampons!
