Very nice, nothing beats a long trip in the mountains!

A question: when leaving the tent pitched and going for a walk without tent / cooking gear / sleeping bag, did you ever return to find something missing? I'm planning a similar trip and would like to leave the tent pitched in the same place for 2/3 nights. I'm not really worried, but asking doesn't hurt :-)

That was a superb read and great pics to accompany: excellent. We saw that snack van too: rustic charm located beside the coo pens which added to the experience I think. 12,000m of ascent!! Everest next? Haste ye back. :D :D

When I leave my tent for the day, it's well away from habitation or busy roads, but often near or even on a track. I haven't left it for more than a day, to sleep a night in a bothy and then return.

But other hillwalkers would have to do the stealing/vandalism, or gamekeepers or stalkers. Why would they? And they're welcome to a bar of chocolate, or a lump of cheddar if they're starving. :D
Even animals gnawing at tent or food I've never experienced (the soxygen might scare them off). I wrap food well.

Utterly brilliant! Read that with a combination of admiration and jealousy.

Having failed to string together any substantial multi-day trips I'm very impressed.

Any chance you could get back for another this year to keep us entertained? 8)

Ah, I wondered why I was there, now it makes sense ;-)

To all who look forward to my next report, I'm flattered by your anticipation, but it's gonna be 2013 I'm afraid. :eh:
(Curious? My list is topped by Glen Arnisdale, upper Strathconon and Bheinn Fhada)

Absolutely cracking report, really got me thinking too. What a wonderful report and beautiful photos to accompany it, never was the word 'epic' so justly deserved - wonderful :D

Klaas

I've copied to Will to make him jealous - me too as I am spending too much time sanding and painting boats.

Excellent trip, like your food rationing but you should always leave space for Kendal Mint cake. At a pinch you could probably use whisky instead of meths!

cheers

Hi Klaas,
I think I must have been away in Scotland when this featured, so missed it then.
I love reading your reports, not many can match them for the adventure and the narrative....superb epic once again and so enjoyable to read.
Hopefully I will bump into you one day so we can talk about our trips and our love of backpacking 8)
Oh...and we now have the same tent :D Brilliant isn't it :D .

This is such an amazing and unusual report. Some great pictures which are unlike any others we've seen, too. Wonderful stuff: have bookmarked it and will read again!

Best wishes,

Daniel and Clare.
