Ben Vane

After a horrible Saturday with Gale force winds it was good to see the weather went 180 degrees, and Sunday was a perfect Autumn day with blue skies and no wind. We started from the Inveruglas Car Park (323098), a path on the opposite side of the road from the car park allows near misses with oncoming cars to be avoided. Walking south along the A82, passing the power station the path reaches Inveruglas Water and a gate. Passing through the gate, a well tarmaced track can be followed. Alternatively a rugged path follows the river and rejoins the track to cut a few minutes off the route. The track passes the power generators and views of Ben Vane are quicky available in front of you.
The road veers north-west and a view of Loch Sloy Reservoir appears in the distance.
However, cut across the river on a good bridge about 1.5 km into the walk.
Walking along this track for a few minutes you will aproach another small bridge, and signs of the path that leads towards the South-East ridge of Ben Vane. This section is quite boggy and a bit of marsh and remains boggy for a climb of about 50m. The path then gets a bit better. It is easily followed, and presents few difficulties.
As already mentioned there are several false summits and a couple of occassions towards the top where a bit of hand work is required but wouldnt call it scrambling. A small slab section near the top can be easily negotiated with little exposure.
There are two small cairns at the top which is relatively flat. We got great views of Ben Lomond and Ben Ime from the top.
Descend the way you come up for least annoyance. All in all a lovely autumn day!
