Sunshine on the Cairngorm plateau
Posted: Mon Apr 30, 2012 7:35 amMy Sunday walk took me out to Ben Macdui in glorious sunshine. From the Cas carpark I headed out to the broad ridge left of the so called Lurchers gully to gain the high ground.
The rain that fell on the lower ground for most of the week came as snow above 800 metres and cllected in great quantities on the plateau.
- Heading for 1083 with a view of the Cairn Lochan cliffs.
- A skier skinning his way towards Macdui.
- Not many walkers around today. Mostly skiers on the summit some of whom were about to make their way towards Beinn Mheadhoin.
- Climbers reaching the upper section on their climb out of Coire an t-Sneachda.
- The joy of ending on the plateau.
- Not more than a few metres away a skier side slips his way into the exit from Aladdins couloir to descend to the coire floor.
- Preparations done, he is now hopping over the flute of snow to drop into the main part of the gully.
- Tracks and skiers signatures all over the plateau.
- A snowshoer making his way to the cairn at .1141.
- The walk down from .1141 to the ski area. The several descents possible from. the summit of Cairngorm looked almost pisted owing to the sheer passage of the many skiers walking up to the top to ski off-piste.
