Spending the weekend at the Glenmore campsite with the family. A stunningly beautiful campsite our pitch just in the woods on the shores of Loch Morlich. BBQ on the beach every night just fantastic.
I had one pass out for a walk so after advise from a pal Bynack More was the choice a nice easy one for my son who has not climbed a hill since last September & his pal who was camping with us. It would be his first Munro. Then the plan grew arms & legs & at 5pm on Saturday I find myself at Glenmore lodge caring amongst other things:- 1 three person tent, I sleep mat, 1 sleeping bag, Cooker, Gas, 3 tins of sausage & beans, bacon, rolls, pots & pans & 5lts of water. To be far the boys bags were a weight as well.
We had our first stop at the Lochan which is beautiful & then pushed on along the good track, over the bridge. Had another wee stop before ascending onto the broad ridge. Found a reasonably good spot at about 750 meters just before the very broad ridge. Tent up, beds made & essentials in my pack so the boys could carry on without packs which made them very happy. Along the broad ridge taking the old path which is a bit more direct. Once on the summit ridge there is a series of rocky tops which the boys scrambled about on until the summit cairn was reached. We then spent a while taking it all in & watching the sun go down. It was just stunning. Then back down for a very chilly night in the tent. It snowed & I discovered that in the ton weight of stuff I had no spoons or mugs, so we drank the beans & used the empty tins for mugs. Pure class!
In the morning I fried up the bacon for the rolls & we packed up the tent. It snowed on & off for about half an hour, but we descended quickly even with the heavy packs.
A great adventure for the boys & one which I am sure they will want to repeat.
