Mid week sneaky peak club time with a difference. I was off with the family at Glenmore & was not expecting to get out until I got a message from Ron (Rocket). Big plans where afoot which required him to walk 40 odd K over the weekend to get himself to 198 whilst Polly (H33), must ask her one day where the 33 comes from, had to do a wee stroll to get herself to 98. Thus a century & double could be achieved on the same walk.
For such a celebration these two hills are not the most stunning, but the views from them are & the area is beautiful. The recent dry weather had greatly reduced the bog factor. Ron modest as always says 200 is nothing to celebrate only finishing is.
Thursday morning arrived & Andy picked up Polly & then I & we headed to meet Ron at the Kinghouse. Weather looking good & an easy drive. Then down the Etive road to the start point.
We agreed to do the WH route after dismissing McNish’s route, preferring the longer, but circular route.
Stunning views all around, the cloud built but still above the summits. Starav looking particularly fine.
As I said the usual bog feast was fairly dry after the good spell of weather we have all enjoyed & this was the first time I enjoyed the route up to the bealach.
Although this is a 19k walk the walking is easy & without too much effort we were atop Albannaich. On the way off we stopped behind some rocks for a spot of lunch before looking for the small cairn at the second rake & the easier descent to the bealach before the annoying hump on the way to Meall nan Eun. We met a chap who had cycled in from Orchy to loch Dochart & walked up Eun from there.
Again easy walking took us to the Summit of Meall nan Eun with Andy & I hanging back so the Polly & Ron could hit their respective millstones. Plenty of photos taken & a wee present for Ron from Polly. Met a couple who had found the ascent of Eun from the glen quite hard as they had picked the steepest part to come up.
As we descended the rain came on, but quite light & could not dampen our spirits.
Once at the car we headed to the Clachaig for a few drinks & a bite to eat. Busy but once we had beaten off an old boy we had our usual table.
Another great day in the hills & a big well done to Polly & Ron.
