The long walk in to...Meikle Bin

Had a half day free so caught bus to Kilsyth,walked up Allanfaulds rd,by the farm, then wandered over Campsies to Meikle Bin, down through forest over to Cort ma Law and out to Clachan of Campsie - for a longer day carry on up Fin Glen to Earl's Seat then out to Strathblane or Killearn.
The Campsie Fells are a great bit of high land near the heavily populated Central Belt, full of delightfull nooks and crannies(need find them for yourself) where you can get some outdoor peace. Part of the delight is having them to yourself as the munro baggers race northwards. Better not make them sound too good - they provide plenty of study in tussock jumping, bog hopping, even a bit of through forest track finding- certainly enabled me to graduate(without distinction!) when I moved on to the Galloway hills.
Getting up your local hills in all seasons/kinds of weather is a good thing(presuming you have them), it is great experience (essential in my old fashioned view). I have had plenty of fun in the snow on the Campsies & probably the most frightened I've been on any hill is running down from Hart Hill in a thunder & lightening storm - here is my half day in pictures

Looks like a great wee walk. My Aunt used to take me up the Campsie's when I was wee. I always enjoy a walk round that way

Nice one. Real walking. Agree with your sentiments on the race to the north for bagging.

My Dad knew an old fella who lived in Balloch and used to leave very early in the morning to stroll around the hills above Vale of Leven and Kilpatrick. He'd be gone for most of the day. Bet he saw loads of wildlife and had the place to himself. Seem to recall he had friends who he used to meet and they would rebuild sections of dry stone walls.

My Dads advice was always, "stick to the clumps, and your feet won't get wet"
