Winds were higher than forecast, tops stayed in cloud and it rained most of the day - until we were coming back down when it became dry and bright (clouds did go back over the tops though). Made use of GPS to check co-ordinates, read the map and used the compass... and we did it! No errors or wrong turns, enjoyed the climb up Stuc (reported to be a 'tricky scramble') and found even in the pouring rain it wasn't anything to be worried about. Very pleased with ourselves

Good map and compass work is always fun, and grid reference checking too. I like to work out the reference first and then see if the technology agrees?

In August 2011, I did the same route with both summits in the mist, then saw them clear on the way down just as you did (nice shot of Stuc's prow, by the way). Did you manage to get down the scree path without bringing half the scree down with you? I f so you did better than me

Me too! GPS is just for peace of mind.. might cause total confusion if I ever find it doesn't agree with where I think I amBod wrote:Good map and compass work is always fun, and grid reference checking too. I like to work out the reference first and then see if the technology agrees?
Thanks Jonny, at least you made a start on your second round
Yes, maybe just a quarter of it went quite slowly down theresimon-b wrote:Did you manage to get down the scree path without bringing half the scree down with you?

Was up there yesterday...busier than the M8 because of the holiday weekend. You got the solitude, but the weather was with us. Hate to be smug, but.................
Will you manage the Glencoe meet?
