Ben Nevis. First Munro

I wanted to do Munro so there was only one to start with and that had to be Ben Nevis. I know every man and his dog has been up Ben Nevis but now it was my turn with my son Rhys for company. Staying at the youth hostel at Glen Nevis. We started our climb from there.The weather was very poor (putting it mildly) Hit the cloud base at around 400m and from then on it was cloud and more cloud and raining on and off becoming heavy at times. The highlight of the day apart from reaching the summit was spotting a little brown frog/toad (to wet to take pic).On the desent with the wind picking up and the rain getting heavier, well you get the picture. You must be thinking why did it take so long. Well my right knee decided to give up on me and i limped most of the way down, pain increasing as i went. Thankfully it seems to be ok now. 1 Munro down 282 to go. !

Unlucky with the weather on your first, hope the next one you do you get the views that make the hard work worth it.

Hope your knee doesn't pay either. Good luck with the rest of them.

what an introduction to the Munros Never mind. It can only get better. Good effort anyway especially with the dodgy knee

I couldn't think of a better way to start your Munro bagging spree than with the biggest, they'll all seem so much easier now well maybe not then but kudos to you WW for getting at it in those conditions and limping the entire descent great effort mate

Well Done Matey....am amazed you made it up to Scotland with the weather....still being a Welshman you must be used to all that rain!! Shame you didn't get to see much though! Well done on your first munro.....perhaps we ought to plan your next munro now!!

Hi Greigers It did seem a long trek down. It was good to have my son for company. My first pint did not touch the sides.
