With all good intentions we set off on our first Graham. Leaving luss car park at 10.30am (Free parking from the 1st Nov which we noticed on our return) we had been using a walks book all year and this was the hardest one in the book. Unfortunately it gives a written description and a hand drawn map which at times makes any resemblance to an OS map.
We found our way half way up by the visible path, after this we marched on compass bearings, visibility from then on reduced to 50 feet and the rain had been constant storm weather.
Happy where we were on the map we continued to the top, had a very quick and wet lunch and set off in search of the next cairn. By the book we were reading it all went wrong, no names or description, after looking for the cairn where we thought it would be, we gave up and followed the wrong path, we knew where we were on the map but didn’t realise we should have followed the top of the ridge, as the book only said from the cairn make your way down the hill.
So we did, on our bums sometime as the slopes were now a constant stream of water. A very slow and not much fun decent got us back onto the last trog down the road that was now flooded. As we were so wet we splashed happily back to the car park.
I will no longer use that book and will use this site for more deatailed routes, even though I did enjoy the walk, it was luck rather than skill we didnt suffer any injury coming down the slope.
