GLEN SHIEL RIDGE

This was a long planned trip to walk the South Glen Shiell ridge that was brought to an abrubt ending by the weather. We had camped overnight at the Morvich campsite and drove down to Clunie Inn at about 9:00am. The winds were gusting at the bottom and the rain was a constant drizzle. The real problem started when we hit about the 500mtr mark of Creag a' Mhaim when the gust were causing real problems walking. The rain by this time was lashing down and we were starting to get soaked through. ( Even the OS map in its cover had turned to pulp.). By the time we got to the ridge on the ascent to Druim Shionnach it was proving dangerous to traverse over any exposed sections so after a quick recce over the map to plan an escape route we headed down to the Clunie Inn and the sodden drive back to the campsite. It proved to be the right decision as the day wore on the wind in the campsite threatened to take my solid steel pole tent with it. Back to the drawing board now to plan a return trip

I did 7 hills on that ridge a few years ago in good conditions and wouldn't have fancied that narrow bit in such poor condidtions either.
