Glen Strathfarrar Munros
Posted: Sat Aug 04, 2012 11:54 amWalked this on with John. We left Kincraig just before 8am and arrived at the locked gate in Glen Strathfarrar just after 9am. John had brought his bike so we took it to the far end of the walk and dropped it at the side of the road to save us the 6km walk at the end of the day much appreciated.
We started walking about 9.45 at a flat grassy area between Loch Beannacharan and Loch a' Mhuillidh, we headed up the track past the small dam on the stream and continued uphill a path branches of to the left but can be indistinct in places but I was following John so we did not go wrong. After my long walk yesterday and the warm weather I was finding the going hard but we did get to the first summit of Sgurr na Ruadhe before we had our first break.
The views were great all round and the route ahead looked inviting. After some food I felt much better and we headed towards the Bealach nam Botaichean, under foot was a lovely spongy moss and grass which is very easy going. It was a long pull up to the next summit Carn nan Gobhar
After a quick break and a couple of pictures it was on to the next top of Sgurr a’ choire Ghlais at 1083 the heighest of the day. This is another top with 2 large cairns and a trig point.
With our last top in sight we set off for Sgurr Fhuar thuill with the top of Creag Ghorm a’ Bhealaich to be reached first. The views were stunning all day a the route ahead clear. Once at the top of Sgurr Fhuar thuill we could see the stalkers path that we intended to take on the way out.
After the summit we followed the ridge until we came to the stalkers path which is steep but well made. It keep to the left of the lochan, we followed the pathuntil it crosses the stream and later becomes a track and follows the course of the Allt Toll a' Mhuic downhill with some impressive waterfalls and pleasant birchwoods eventually arriving back at the road where we had left the bike. It was now up to John to do his Bradly Wiggins impersonation and cycle back to get the car while I had a rest. Great day in a part of the country I have never visited before, thanks John.
