A great report from a fine day! I loved doing this ridge...it's a long day with a lot of distance, but otherwise good going on the ground. Everyone has a preference but I'd say going E to W is best - if only for the views (which are hardly awful looking the other way either!).

You did well conserving water! I didn't see mention of a refill. From what I saw and have heard it's very hard to find water up on the ridge. We met some runners (doing your route in reverse) who had almost run out and they still had a long way to go so we donated them a litre. Glad we had a car at both ends. Some folk we passed on the hill were walking it back!

Only mistake we made was taking a "shortcut" to descend. Instead of going along further and using the path down we descended right down where you looked in this shot (I shuddered upon seeing this image again!)....

Looked okay 'til we got down (to the point of just bashing on regardless!)

Wonderful rockhopper! And what gorgeous pictures :-D Brings back fond memories of earlier this summer; how I loved that ridge walk! Hats off for continuing on, we were well done for after the 7 (plus that one small one), and running out of time. The inversion shots at the start are amazing; that must have been a moment for awe and contemplation up there on creag a dham.

I'm just an old plodder on the hills, so I was hugely impressed by rockhopper's total bag for the day. And doing all these tops with a longish uphill cycle and a long drive home afterwards.... A brilliant trip report, great achievement and a real pleasure to share the last part of my much more modest walk (Sgurr na Sgine and The Saddle) with a great guy.

You, davgil and HSC have got me wondering about what sort of water volumes people normally carry - I wasn't sure if I'd be able to fill up anywhere so carried an extra 1litre on top of my usual 1.5litres in the camelbak bladder (I also carry the two bottle chlorine dioxide drops if I do find water as I prefer to purify water following a very bad experience some years back). When the camelbak runs down, I then refill it from the bottle. I've always tended to use a bladder rather than bottle for daytrips as I'm used to using it for mountain biking. I find that taking small occasional sips uses up much less water than gulping from a bottle. In the end I didn't refill but did run out towards the end of the return cycle - I did have a good drink (of water) back at the car - cheers :)
