Two corbetts from Glen Orchy

Two Corbetts from Glen Orchy

We started the walk from Invergaunan. There were enough car parking spaces at either sides of the gate for 4 cars.Went through the gate and followed the good track to the end of the forest. We continued on the track for roughly ½ km passing some fencing and then headed south west up the steep slopes, avoiding new tree plantations.

Here we had to climb over a deer fence onto the open hill. It would have been possible to initially follow the original fence from the bottom track up the hillside as the fencing headed under the crags of Beinn Udlaidh :o

We passed quartz like rocks to gain the ridge north towards Beinn Udlaidh.
The summit is flat and stony and the mast seems to have been blown down in the winds.

A quick summit pic as the winds were strong and headed south east and dropped to about 690m and stopped for a bite to eat.

We continued east north east towards the col picking up a path and then north up the steep grassy slopes towards the summit of Beinn Bhreac Liath. Two small cairns are presented on the huge broad plateau and we made sure we visited the two :)

We practiced some timing on the summit and continued north for 1.5km along the ridge, calculating that we were walking at approximately 5km an hour.

Headed west from the plateau down very steep heathery ground and across the Allt Ghamhnain to pick the path back up at the edge of the forest back to Inveraunan.

I've been doing the same as they're "only" an hours drive away. Looks like a good short day out.

Nice report! It's a good wee round that one, with some different views of familiar hills. There's a bit of fun scrambling to be had up the giant quartz vein (if you fancy it), and keep an eye out for some weird folded rocks a bit higher up.

I wish whoever put the mast up there would come back and clear up after themselves sometime!

Hi mountain thyme, really enjoying all your corbett reports, hope to do a few of these myself :D

Lucky you having Mgmt to keep you right but I thought the corbetts would be too easy for him :?
