Needing to blow the cobwebs away after the Anstruther Muster a good walk was required. Also to help the girls in their WHW training and claim their first Munro we decided on Mount Keen.
Left home at 7.40 and headed up to Forfar for a stop at McD's, nothing wrong with a cheeky Egg & Sausage McMuffin or Pancakes and Syrup for the extra calories. Weather 19 degrees, overcast with low cloud on the hills, the MWIS report said this would burn off during the day.
Set off from the carpark at 10.20 and made good time to the Queens Well where we took a short break. The sun had made an appearance and started to bake us all but luckily a good stiff breeze also came with it.
A good pace was set, dictated by the ladies (they still had enough breath for chattering) and made the top in a little over 3 hrs. The stiff breeze became a strong wind when on the top of the moor after the Knowe of Crippley and although warm helped stop overheating. Found a little brown snake crossing the track but could not identify its type.
Very windy at the top and took shelter among the rocks overlooking Broad Cairn for lunch.
Returned to the car in 2hrs 10mins where the sun broke through and down in Glen Esk it was a glorious day.
Stopped at the Panmure Hotel in Edzell for a wee refreshment, several for the ladies, who were flying high after their first Munro. Main topic of the conversation was where is the next hill.
