This was a great walk for a late afternoon as the light is changing unfortunately didn't get the skys so the pictures are a bit bland. I'll tell you a little more about this one than usual as it's not as it looks on the map. Firstly the only clear path from Yew tree Tarn zig zags up to whats called Ivy crag on my GPS it looks like the high spot so I assume that is the top of Holme Fell after that there is no clear path back to the road crossing for the track up to whats named as Black Crag on the trig marker. So I just picked my way through the waist high bracken which was hard going. Black Crag has a clear path which doesn't show on the map strange as it's labelled with the national trust emblem, it's a great little walk. The best bit of the walk however is from the tarn at tarn hows down through the glen past the waterfalls on the way back to the car at Yew Tree Tarn It's clearly signed don't miss it. Heres the map roughly and a few pictures.

That looks like one I would enjoy Chris, though the waist high bracken I'm not so sure about...I hate the sound of hard work

Cheers Chris, that is indeed a great walk, can be a little confusing at the top of Holme Fell, at least I wasnt sure which was the high point

I was in the Lake District last week, we walked Loughrigg Fell on the Wednesday and then headed to attempt Black Fell on the Thursday. We walked through the woodland and I have to agree with you, it is a great part with all the lovely waterfalls. We didn't make it to the top though, we cut up via a sign posted iron keld plantation, a little further up we saw cows, we had the dog with us and couldn't risk it. Can you tell me, were these behind a wall or fence on black fell. Really disappointed we didn't get to the top.

No cows when I did It although there was plenty of evidence that there had been cows in the field if you get what I mean
