This was my first challenge as a new Mountain Climber. I am aware that this relatively small mountain is nothing compared to the Munro's etc. However, as I climbed this, I felt I was in great shape and ready to take on bigger and better challenges.

I have arranged to climb Clachnaben on 4 Sept 2012. I figured it would be best to gain some experience on the smaller heights rather than get stuck up the half way up Ben Nevis and have to be rescued.

I would really appreciate any tips etc from more experienced climbers as to the equipment I might need for higher mountains or routes etc.

Thanks for reading!

Welcome to the addictive world of hill walking.

Bennachie is a great wee hill and one I get to se alot on my drive to work. Morven might be a good one to add to list as it has great views of Lochnagar and Mount Keen.

Kit wise you don;t have to go all out but breethable waterproofs are essential, and try to stay away from cotton t-shirts and jeans as these hold water anf can get cold/uncomfortable. Beyond that enjoy the challenge of your first steps and you'll soon be looking for bigger (but not always better) things!!! 8)
