2 Beinns, a Hut, a Derry and a Jocky Wilson celebration

I got a call from Jimmy on the Friday to say they were heading to the Linn of Dee on the Saturday and asked what Munros should they do. I suggested they do The Devils Point, Cairn Toul and The Angels Peak as the forecast was looking good for the Saturday. They duly obliged but being the hardcore walkers that they are they also added on Carn a' Mhaim as i'd said i'd meet them on Sunday and we could do the two Beinns and Derry Cairngorm. This would finish off the Munros in this area for us three and would also take Jimmy and Mo to 180 Munros and me to my 50th Munro this year. So they had a ten hour warm up on the Saturday while their leader took it easy before i met them on the Sunday. We set off from the Linn of Dee at 09.15 on the bikes and arrived at Derry Lodge about 20mins later, padlocked the bikes then set off on feet up Glen Derry. There is a marker cairn on the path where you leave the main path to take another path up to the ridge. At this point the waterproofs went on as the weather was not looking too good but it cleared up quite quickly and turned out to be quite a nice day. We arrived at Beinn Bhreac to some fine views and then made our way over to Beinn a' Chaorainn, this part of the walk being very boggy. Before climbing Beinn a' Chaorainn we met a couple of guys heading to Beinn Bhreac, who we had a quick chat to before making our way to the summit. It was quite windy so we decided to make our way to The Hutchison Memorial Hut to have lunch and also to have a look at the renovation work. We came off Beinn a' Chaorainn down the scree and cut straight across to The Hut to save walking round the path. On arrival at The Hut we were greeted by the MBA volunteers, had a wee look then ate our lunch. It was here we looked at the best way to get up Derry Cairgorm, i suggested straight up from The Hut but as Mo liked paths she wanted to take the Loch Etchachan route. Mo then asked the MBA volunteer as we argued over which way to go but he was not getting involved , quite right as well. Anyway myself and Jimmy overuled Mo as we allways do and headed straight up from The Hut. Although steep it was a short climb and we were up fairly quickly and making our way over to Derry Cairngorm via the 983 top as i'd made a little navigation error due to not checking the map Again we were blessed with the best views the Cairngorms have to offer as we arrived at the summit. There are two cairns here so not sure which one is the summit but we took the 180 photo at the first cairn. All that was left to do now was to make our way down the fine ridge back to the bikes at Derry Lodge and a nice easy cylce out to the Linn of Dee.
