The Tarmachan Ridge

We had planned a trip around the White Mounth circuit for this weekend, however as both myself and Captain Slow were suffering a bit from colds we thought a shorter, easier walk would be in order. Earlier in the summer we had walked the Lawers 7 in a very cloudy weekend so we decided to have a go at the Tarmachan ridge in the hope that this time we would get some better views back across to the peaks.

The weather forecast gave us more than a 90% chance of clear summits so naturally we were not holding our breath :) . True to form we rapidly ascended into the clouds, which didn’t clear until we were making our descent. However the walk was not too strenuous and easy to navigate thanks to the very nice path. The only slightly dicey part is the very short scramble on the way down from Meall Garbh. The rocks were a little damp and slippery so a lot of careful sliding!

We visited all four tops on the ridge, and had a sort of view from the final one (Creag na Caillich). The wind was fairly strong along the top, reducing the temperature considerably. All in all a simple, relatively short trip with nice views of the sunrise through the rear view mirror on the morning drive to make up for the lack of views!
