Walkhighlands

Back in August I took my eldest son Zac on his first camping trip and for his first Munro. We were meeting friends and their kids late Friday afternoon to climb Carn a'Gheoidh on the Saturday after a "wild" camp and BBQ on the Friday night. With the good weather at the time (yes...there was a good day in the summer!) I decided I'd like nothing more than to do Zac's first Munro with just himself and I. So having done Carn Aosda before I knew he would manage it no problems. Parked up at the ski centre and made our way up slowly but surely and despite the odd mumble of "it's miles away!" and the odd lifting him up, we made it to the top in about 50 mins. I think I was more delighted than Zac was, knowing what he'd just accomplished and had the biggest smile on my face ever! Some pics of our big day out The next day we climbed his 2nd Munro, taking a wee bit longer than everyone else, but was to be expected...2 hills in 2 days with those wee legs

Thanks guys, yeah hopefully I'll take him out for more hills when the weather is warmer again next year.....with new boots no doubt, scary how fast they grow!!

yeah I remember that well...I'd have had the bug sooner if I'd taken up the invites from my folks to go hill climbing in my teens...bit of a regret really!

Nice one Zac! Start small and work your way up. You've got a lifetime of hills ahead of you! I have taken my 19 month old daughter up a few hills now, all in the child carrier on my back, although she is now able to get out and toddle up short sections on her own as appropriate. She was recently on her first Corbett and hopefully next year will see her on her first Munro. I hope she gets the bug and that it becomes a passion that stays with her, although as Rockhopper says, she is likely to at least go through a phase of considering it uncool. I'm also planning on taking her for her first overnight wild camp next summer (weather permitting!) - somewhere fairly easy to get in and out, just in case it all goes horribly wrong!
