Parked the car at forestry Commission car park at Braeval. Lots of space here. Walked up yellow route to meet red route and from there up to top of Lime Craig for our lunch. Great views and weather perfect.

From here back down to where a worn path cuts off up the hill on left hand side. After going beside a burn through trees, you emerge at a new gate.

Go through and follow the path. This climbs up to top of Menteith Hills, top called Craig of Monievreckie. This gives clear view of Lake of Menteith all the way to Stirling and Ochils on a day like today. North Lochs Katrine, Drunkie, Vennachar can be seen. The path is very reasonable till the top where it can be boggy, but easily got round. Coffee and tunnocks at trig point.

You can go right over and cut back, but we returned and went round the first hill, no point going back up. down to the gate, then back to the track and on to car park. Had a wee detour for a viewpoint on the way down, just a worn path through trees to a clear spot overlooking the golf course.

A great day out and not strenuous either. We had a busy weekend.

We reached the top of Lime Craig ok - the yellow/red posts are no longer in existence, just follow the forest tracks "up" hill. At Lime Craig there is a metal gate, just before the steep descent to Aberfoyle, we went through this and then had a 1.5 km "bog trot" to the summit of the Menteith Hills and trig point. For the descent we dropped down and battled our way through chest high bracken to find the wooden gate and down to the forest track. Finding the start of this path is difficult, it is at GR 538013 and was well over grown, as we did the walk at the end of July. Good views from the summit but not a walk for those looking for an easy "stroll".
