Awesome report and pics. The views are stunning. I am over next week for a full week with the family. Hoping for 1 day in the hills.

Would your route be OK for a single walker??

Thanks for your report - love it

The route is fine for a single walker as long as your competent with a couple of scrambling moves, nothing too technical involved. Steve Fallon has a route to do the 4 corbetts on his website. If its in the clag i would think twice about the route though.

Wow! :D what can I say, wonderful pictures, great report, great weather, diffinately worth waiting six week for :D . I ruptured my achillies August 2010, it took twelve months off before back on the hills :( , so look after it mate. I have never been to Arran, but that's somewhere I must go, looks unbelievable, but will save it for good weather, for the views alone and take the tent. Thank's for sharing, will read your TR again before going and make sure my camera card is empty :D

What a bummer with the injury
Glad that episode has passed and your out walking again. Yeah take a tent and do the 4 corbetts.

RTC wrote:As everyone else has said, absolutely stunning photos. Pleased to see there is no cairn in your photo of the top of Beinn Tarsuinn. I did it a couple of years ago in thick mist and couldn't find a cairn, which put doubts in my mind about having reached the top. Your photos have made me realise that it will be well worth doing again in clear conditions.
Yeah we didnt see one. Was a pile of stones on one of the ledges so we just stood on that. Defo do on a clear day :)

hey.. dooterbang is probably away trying to read the map and workout where we started :D

You can follow the path that goes off to the right from the carpark and follow it along the river...this takes you up to meet the ridge just before the witches step.
We headed south from the carpark and followed a faint path heading straight for the hill. We thought this was a better route as the views really open up when you head this way onto the ridge

What a cracking day you all had - loved the pics. Never been to Arran

Great that you did the walk and got no reminders of the injury as well, to me that would be the big ++. Tomorrow the world!

Best of luck with your Degree as well Dooterbang.

I really enjoyed reading this. I hope to do this sort of route maybe in a year or two. The Witch's Step intimidates me a little, though I could happily to Caisteal Abhail from Sail An Im then take the ridge to Cìr Mhòr, the route I just did yesterday. I'm working my way up to longer routes, having just found my way into Arran's hills. A more experienced and patient companion would be good to have.

I'm 47 and have a leg injury from a fall when I was 17. I'm lucky to have my leg though and super grateful that I'm finding the courage to get back into the hills again! I've lived on Arran for over 10 years and had done only Goatfell until this year. It's exciting to go exploring. Your opening line made me laugh about how little sleep you had from excitement. I had the same thing on Saturday night!
