Its been a wee while since I've done one of these, have been very busy with other commitments and some things have had to take a back seat including this site...(oops, sorry Paul...)
So, having a few days off work just now, the plan was to spend the time improving my landscape photography. Was in the Torridon area on Saturday and today the plan was to do Ben Stack. Unfortunately I didnt get to leave until 5am which was pushing it to get up there for sunrise, so plans are a changing whilst driving and near Ullapool I decide to get up Stac Pollaidh for the sunrise.
Parked in the carpark around 630 am and got the camera out for the first shot of the day.... stunning clear starry sky, satellites overhead and a shooting star... great start to the day.
It was a decent sized moon, not quite full, but enough to walk by without the need for my head torch. The route is very straightforward and even taking my time I was up on the summit by 8am... The light was looking promising in the east so I set up the tripod and spent the time scouting out a good vantage point...
As the sun came up, the light was beautiful and it was difficult to know where to begin shooting, the views from up here really are second to none.
Hopefully I've done it some justice. As time went on the light just got better and better, this did not feel like a December day, it was almost t-shirt weather, quite warm...(when the wind wasn't blowing}.
Stac Pollaidh looks like something straight out of Lord Of The Rings and I felt like a kid again at times scrambling over rocks, and exploring. Before I knew it, it was after 10am, I had spent 2 hours up here but it felt like minutes. With the light still amazing I was loathe to leave, but I have plans for most days this week and all involve early starts, so it was time to head.
Near the bottom I met my first fellow walker of the day, and also a member of this site, and after a brief chat (and promising I would get a report done) I took my leave.
This is a great wee walk and highly recommended.
