I was looking for a short walk today and this one shorter than expected. I arrived at the end of the road where a sign informs you that the road is closed, this is just before Melgarve. I set off at 10.15 and after about 10 mins walking i reach the building at Melgarve and it's here you leave the track to head up to Gairbeinn but i decided to keep on the track to climb up from the south west to make the walk a bit longer. I returned by heading south from the summit to the track. The SMC book gives a time of 1hr 50mins to the summit so i reckoned this would be a 3 hour walk, hence the reason for staying on the Corrieyairack Pass as i wanted to be out for at least 4 hours. I had various ideas on making the walk longer, like continueing onto the demoted Corbett, Corrieyairack Hill or doing a horseshoe route coming over Carn Dearg. This is what i think a group ahead of me was doing but i opted to just do Gairbeinn with the walk taking me 3hrs 40mins with a good lunch stop on the summit. One other idea i had to make the walk longer was to invite Mountain Thyme along but she was busy doing a wee doubler down Lochearnhead way. Theres not much to say about the walk apart from it's a nice short walk with a rocky summit which i like, as it gives you options for a lunch spot and the views were not bad either. All in a fairly easy day even in the snow.

It is a fine hill resplendant in white. We combined it with Corrieyairick Hill as a horseshoe coming down Gairbeinn for a great short walk on the way home from Mill Cottage, Glen Feshie. A great summit to sit and look about from.
Cheers.

a nice wee wander Johnny and some lovely views .... but I think you'll need to stop putting up with that "whippersnapper" MT and her various comments as it looks more as though she's learning from you than vice versa  - cheers :)
