I don’t know how many times I’d driven past this wee hill and thought how nice a viewpoint it must be , today it was time to pay it a visit . Adverse climatic conditions this morning (snow and ice ) meant work –no , walking –yes , so it was off up the A82 to Tarbet where I parked in the main lochside car park . I didn’t fancy trying the icy lane up to the station but there are a few parking spaces to be had right at the start of the walk . The route heads through the railway underpass and , following red waymarkers , turns right at a junction which brings you into some nice mixed woodland with a few grand old beech trees .
- Turn right
The path soon starts to climb steeply before turning east and crossing a burn , a faint path leads off to the left through the Sitka , this continues uphill beside the burn until the tree line is reached , a bit boggy in places and a few windblown trees to dodge but nothing too bad .
- Across the burn and turn left into the trees
As soon as the trees are left behind the views start to open up , the route ahead is obvious enough over tussocky heather and before long the trig point comes into view .
- View down Loch Lomond from the treeline
- Route to Summit
- Trig
It's less than an hour's walk to the summit but there are wonderful views of Loch Lomond and the Arrochar hills .
- Close up of The Cobbler
- Ben Lomond
- Loch Long and The Brack
- Beinn Narnain and A'Chrois
- Ben Vane , Loch Sloy , Ben Vorlich
- Loch Lomond
- Ben Reoch
After wandering around the summit for half an hour it started to get a little chilly so I retraced my steps back to the trees and picked up the path back down to the station . A short walk but smashing views , a lovely way to spend a winter's morning
