Sometimes the snowhome is better than a tent. It takes about a good 1 hour to make a two man home and the temperature is steady around 0 to -2 C inside. No wind.

I suppose by the time you have finished digging the snow you will have warmed up a bit

Hello Jon,
Is that a kind of backcountry system of skis/binding/boots that you use? I was just wondering how warm were the feet in the boots? What is like turning these skis in the off piste snow? :) I guess that most folks would be on the heavier mountain touring skis or the telemark touring systems (using skins for the uphill sections) when using skis at the higher levels in Scotland.

I think imagining is allways safe, but just follow some mountain safety rules.

This one wasn't planned. Next time a planned one, might be armed with a snow saw as well to form blocks.

It's a back country system yes. I chose these skis because they are easy to carry in sections with no snow.
Downhill:
Just put the weight on the outer ski when turning and it goes easy.
Uphill:
Fishbone.
The boots are not the best. OK as long as you are moving. If the cold is stronger or in camp its better to have some easy gaiters to cover the whole boot.
And remember to open the laces in the evening. The shoes might freeze during night, causing problem in the morning. Before it was an advice to keep them in the sleeping bag, but that takes too much heat from the body.
