It seems as though everyone & their Granny has climbed Ben Lomond @ some point in their life..
So now it was my turn & we couldnt have chosen a better day, clear blue skies & lots of sunshine!
We set off from Rowardennan car park, up through the woods to the lower slopes of the S ridge
before zig zagging up the well maintained but steep path to the foot of the 800m Sron Aonaich ridge.
Up untill this point there had been very little snow but that changed quickly from here on in, the heavy
snow slowing me up quite a bit.Having finally made it along the ridge,i paused for breath on the broad plateau before heading along the edge of a very icy path on my way to the summit, the small surface area
@ the cairn was like an ice rink & combined with the 40 mph winds meant i wasnt hanging around there too long,a group of polish guys couldnt have timed it any better, emerging from the Ptarmigan ridge route before kindly taking the obligatory pix, a favour that i quickly returned before making my way back along the icy path & onto safer ground,it was here in the winter sunshine that i had some lunch, whilst taking in the amazing views of Loch Lomond & the Arrochar alps, all in all a fantastic day out in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
