Creag Each, Glen Tarken

Saw this walk in the Scotsman magazine on Saturday and given the family connection with Glen Tarken, it was not possible to resist walking it as soon as weather permitted. Parked at layby on road nex t to Woodhouse farm.

Farm track for first part up the hill. Marked by sign saying 'Public Footpath.'. Always a good sign.

Walked through the mud up the track and past several ruined farm steadings, under electricity pylons and on reaching a fence rising away from track on left, we followed it up to a dyke. Crossed the fence and followed dyke up hill crossing through a gap and heading up to next fence. Once over that fence, walked west of crags of Meall Reamhar where a small burn drops down from hill. Kept to the east of the top of this hill and followed another burn and faint tracks up to top. Walked past a little cave and over to cairn at top of Meall Reamhar. Good view over to Ben Vorlich.

Carried on up the small glen, keeping the burn on our right.

We could see the top now but would walk round the next crags and approach north north east direction. By now windy but not cold, cloud unfortunately starting to come down. Weaved through last crags to top.

After a look round, dropped down to get some shelter and lunch. Then simply retraced our steps. Cloud still coming down and Lawers range had disappeared to north of us. Good to drop down into the small glen following the burn as this got us back out of the wind mostly. Crashed off a dodgy gate in lower fence and bashed my elbow and had wind knocked out of me. Bit painful still typing this up. A challenge driving home. Enjoyed the walk though, burning up those xmas calories.

Nice wee winter walk this one, as is Creag Ruadh on the other side of the glen, or a route taking in both.
