Packing up to leave the YHA I bent down and riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip the back of my mountain pants split apart - I know I may have indulged a little over Christmas but this was a bit of a worry, even more so as we were about to head into the hills. I didn't fancy a climb in the snow with just my base layer beween my behind and the wind, so I had to wear my waterproofs from the start.

As with yesterday the marks in the snow suggested there were a few walkers ahead of us - and we soon saw two of them heading up the climb just before loch Sloy.

The snow on Ben Vorlich was deeper than we had experienced all weekend, so rather than cutting our own steps we followed the two ahead. As we expected the weather deteriorated as we gained height and after a short stop to add on some extra layers we lost sight of the pair who we had been following.

As we neared the summit we saw the pair heading back down and exchanged hellos. We reached the summit and stopped for a quick photo at the trig point near-by before heading down.

We took a different route back down eastwards directly towards the power station. The last hundred metres or so of descent were a bit tricky, but it was a more interesting walk than following the path all the way back from the loch.

We arrived back at the car just after 1 o'clock ready to head back to north wales and plan our next trip :)
