Parked at the usual car park for Ben Lomond and followed the WHW to the Ptarmigan Ridge path. I didnt encounter any problematic snow or ice until around 700m where it was fairly solid on the path. It was walkable to the side of the path, though if I had been heading to the summit of the Ben I would definitely have been getting the crampons out.My plan now was to head off the North Ridge to the bealach between Ben Lomond and my intended target Cruinn a'Bheinn. This was fairly steep in places with a few bands of small crags to negotiate, and care was needed given the conditions. Once at the bealach I stopped for some much needed fuel. Once fed and watered, I headed for a wide gully that would take me just under the obvious crag, which I then traversed round to the left. From there it was an easy walk to the small summit cairn. The views here were ace, as they had been for the entire walk, the Arrochar and Crianlarich hills looking fine in their Winter coats. I didn't hang about too long as it was pretty damn cold when I wasn't on the move. From the summit I headed off the North side of the Graham, again some small crags to avoid. Once down off the slope the going was wet and slow until eventually picking up the track down to Cailness, by a cottage the over a bridge and onto the WHW again, which I followed back to Rowardennan. This part of the walk was like a rollercoaster and was a bit of a struggle at times.

Enjoyable walk, but tougher than anticipated with the ups and downs of the WHW really testing the legs on the walk out.

Cheers Hills, my plan had been to include Ben Lomond, but pressing the off button rather than snooze scuppered that plan

Thanks Chris, more ascent than I'd anticipated, my apologies to the goats as I cursed my way past them along the WHW

Brill - you should have updated the Graham tick on this.
Got me thinking that this could be a good Winter bimble.

Good stuff. I did a similar route a couple of years back but went up the Tourist Route to the summit of Ben Lomond and then across to Cruinn a'Bheinn, returning via the WHW track. I recall it being a bit of a bogfest beyond Cruinn a'Bheinn. Cheers.

Cheers Foggie, yeah was pretty boggy between Cruinn a'Bheinn and the track down, still a good walk and cracking views though :)

Fabbie do report Dave!

Can’t believe your photos are from a camera phone, they are really wonderful.

Where’s your cheesy thumbs up summit pic? Or your even cheesier walking buddy? He wouldn’t happen to be on a summit very close by?!

Take care and hope to get a cheeky wee hill done with you soon.
